Dr. Sucheta Mondal completed her Ph.D. from S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata under the supervision of Prof. Anjan Barman (2014-2019). She studied ultrafast magnetization dynamics in nanoscale magnetic materials. After working as a visiting researcher for a few months in Kolkata, she joined the group of Prof. Jeffery Bokor at UC Berkeley in 2019. At Berkeley, her research was inclined toward the electrical- and optical characterization of magnetic heterostructures. She has contributed to some of the important branches of spintronics, such as, spin-orbitronics, magnonics, straintronics, optomagnetism, graphene-spintronics, etc. Her future research interests include power optimization, downscaling, and elevation of operational speed in advanced spintronic devices and exploration of quantum magnonics.
Experimental Condensed Matter Physics: Spintronics and ultrafast spin dynamics
Research interests so far: Ultrafast magnetization dynamics in magnetic thin films, heterostructures, and nanostructures; Generation and manipulation of spin waves in magnonic crystals and quasi-crystals; Optical generation of pure spin-current in strongly spin-orbit coupled systems; Electrical- and optical switching in advanced spintronic devices; Straintronic systems; Two-dimensional materials and hybrid systems, Micromagnetic simulations.
Future research interests: Spin-torque driven switching; Interfacial effects in magnetic metals, semimetals, and insulators; Topological materials; Quantum entanglement between magnon, phonon, and photon; Data storage, recording, and processing applications.
Currently, my teaching activities and research activities at the department are under preparation!
